About Me

About me

I am a Biomedical Engineer from Universidad de Los Andes. Currently, I am a DeepMind scholar (2021) pursuing my M.Sc. in Biomedical Engineering with an emphasis in Artificial Intelligence at Universidad de Los Andes. Also, I am a researcher at the Biomedical Computer Vision (BCV) research group and the Center for Research and Formation in Artificial Intelligence (CINFONIA) under the supervision of Prof. Pablo Arbeláez. Now, I am in Sophia Antipolis, France doing a collaboration project between CINFONIA and EURECOM under the co-supervision of Ph.D. Pablo Arbeláez and Ph.D. María Zuluaga for brain vessels segmentation in MRIs.

My main interests include molecular biology, genetics, nature conservation, and how to attend these problems with the aid of Machine Learning, Deep Learning, and Computer Vision. I also work with computer vision in other applications, such as Endoscopic Surgical Video Analysis and Petrography.

I like singing and manual activities in my free time, such as ceramics, painting, embroidery, and healthy cooking (specially desserts and pancakes).

Work Experience

Researcher 2019 - Present

I am a member of the Biomedical Computer Vision (BCV) group and the Center for Research and Formation in Artificial Intelligence (CINFONIA) at Uniandes, led by Prof. Pablo Arbeláez. I have worked in:

  • Protein-Ligand Interaction prediction for Drug Discovery and Repurposing.
  • Instrument Recognition in laparoscopic and robotic-assisted surgery scenes.
  • Development of dataset for action recognition in surgical scenes.
  • Mineral composition prediction in thin sections of rocks.
  • Analysis of satellital and aerel images for nature conservation.

Teaching Assistant - Image Analysis and Processing present

As a teacher, I plan and assist students with the laboratories of the course. I create new material for teaching machine learning methods applied to biomedical problems. Also, I am in charge of reviewing laboratories, tests, and final class projects.
